Jet-medium interactions: wakes in the QCD medium

چکیده

We calculate the wake induced in a hot, dense QCD medium by a fast parton in the framework of linear response theory. We discuss two different scenarios: (i) a weakly coupled quark gluon plasma (pQGP) described by hardthermal loop (HTL) perturbation theory and (ii) a scenario where the plasma has the properties of a quantum liquid. We show that a Mach cone can appear in the second scenario, but not in the first one.

JEWEL – a Monte Carlo Model for Jet Quenching

The Monte Carlo model JEWEL 1.0 (Jet Evolution With Energy Loss) simulates parton shower evolution in the presence of a dense QCD medium. In its current form medium interactions are modelled as elastic scattering based on perturbative matrix elements and a simple prescription for medium induced gluon radiation. The parton shower is interfaced with a hadronisation model. In the absence of medium...

Dynamical Effects on Jet Energy Loss in a QCD Medium

Computation of radiative energy loss in a finite size dynamically screened QCD medium is a key ingredient for obtaining reliable predictions for jet quenching in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions. We develop a theory which allows calculating, to first order in the number of scattering centers, the energy loss of a heavy quark traveling through a finite size dynamical QCD medium. We show t...

Radiative energy loss in a finite dynamical QCD medium.

The radiative energy loss of a quark jet traversing a finite size QCD medium with dynamical constituents is calculated to first order in opacity. Although finite size corrections reduce the energy loss relative to an infinite dynamical QCD medium, under realistic conditions it remains significantly larger than in a static medium. Quantitative predictions of jet suppression in relativistic heavy...

In-medium Parton Energy Losses and Characteristics of Hadronic Jets in Ultra-relativistic Nuclear Collisions

The angular structure of collisional and radiative energy losses of a hard parton jet propagating through the quark-gluon plasma is analyzed. The possibility to observe the energy losses of quarkand gluon-initiated jets in dense QCD-matter (jet quenching) measuring the characteristics of real hadronic jets in ultra-relativistic collisions of nuclei is investigated. In particular, using calorime...

The suppression of the yield of high transverse momentum pT hadrons in heavy-ion collisions, referred to as “jet-quenching” has now developed into a comprehensive science. Jets are now used as probes of a variety of properties of the dense medium through which they propagate. Major theoretical improvements include jet modification in a 3-D fluid dynamical medium, the first set of in-medium Mont...
